Sandro began his career by working in the family’s food and wine import company, Continental Wine & Foods in Huddersfield. Relocated to run the Scottish Headquarters he began building, what would become, long standing relationships within the Italian community, primarily in and around Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Realising he had an eye for detail, a client once asked for help in designing their new restaurant in Edinburgh. This experience sparked Sandro’s passion for design and allowed him to identify a niche in the market to import furniture from Italy, which led to the creation of New Concept. He decided to sell his share of Hunter & Currie to Ciborio and took the leap to begin a new chapter by opening his own Design, Refurbishment and Italian import company.
Sandro opened the doors to New Concept in 1982 and naturally began working closely within the Italian community of restaurateurs in Glasgow and Edinburgh, however this has now expanded nationally and includes clients across the UK within various sectors of the hospitality trade including, hotels, restaurants, bars, cafés and take-aways. In 1998, Sandro was awarded the title, Cavaliere, the equivalent of a Knighthood, by the Italian Government in acknowledgment of his work as an ambassador to Italy.
Today, New Concept is an institution that is renowned in the catering industry as experts in their field and are arguably one of the largest importers of Italian catering equipment, furniture and modular bars in the UK.
